                                                       Difficulties for PTI

Elections 2018 are drawing nearer and now the million dollar question is that who will win the elections and answer will be given by people on 25 July but we know that the road to Islamabad goes through the Punjab. In Punjab there are only two main contenders PML-N and PTI. PPP is the past and is now almost wiped out of Punjab. PML-N has ruled Punjab for continuously 10 years. Both PML-N and PTI are confident that they will get most of the seats from Punjab as they did in previous elections but PTI failed in doing that. After 5 years ground realities have changed and position of PTI has improved somehow but they still have countless number of problems to face.

Last time PTI contested elections under the slogan of Naya-Pakistan. They will bring new and honest people as their candidates. This narrative attracted many people specially youngsters towards it especially in urban areas due to which party got good number of votes but could not make them to victory stand in majority of constituencies. This time they taken the other path almost opposite to previous one which is difficult to digest for many of its voters. They are playing the old electable politics in this elections which has deteriorated its reputation as a symbol of change. One can say that they have forced to do so due harsh electoral realities due to results of last elections but adopting the exactly opposite, they will have to face the consequences by the dismal of youngsters and idealists who voted for PTI last time for change and now when they see towards the, party it seems that party itself has changed. Every party which has been in government has taken electables and now PTI is doing that but to get victory this party needs the electables as well as ideological/idealistic voter and now the main problem is that how use both concurrently. Both things are necessary because if they choose only electables and satisfy the idealistic voter then when these electables will be gone the party will be in existential crisis and if they choose only core voter they cannot make to victory. So, they have to pacify their ideological voter. Can they do that? Results will speak out loudly. Secondly the perception of being an army player has its pros and cons. On one hand it can give you some good candidates and the reputation (due to army’s support) of being the winner of elections but on the other hand you can miss the popular wave and the other party tries to make a narrative that it is being victimized to get you on the victory stand (as PML-N is doing) so IK needs to maintain a balanced posture. It should not seem that match is fixed.

It seems that from last five years PTI is doing politics on the negative of others not presenting their performance in KPK, their own practical agenda. Again and again Imran Khan is repeating its accusations on Nawaz Sharif and people are tired of that. From last five years IK is doing almost similar speeches and people have listened that so many time. So, it seems that newness in the party has finished. PTI is enjoying the status of being only anti PML-N party in Punjab due to weak position of other parties. If a new party comes with good leadership and present its own practical and attractive agenda then it seems that PTI can easily be replaced. So doing politics only by blaming others cannot win you elections you have present your own practical roadmap and your performance of last five years if you have any.

Imran Khan had announced that it will PTI an institution not just a pressure group or a group of power hungry people but this has not been done. Party is highly disorganized and a power politics is going on inside the party and new entrants have increased in its disorganization. During 2013-2018 instead of organizing its party IK has just done agitational politics and party’s problems are left there to stay and current dharnas outside Bani-Gala has depicted some its internal situation. PTI has to prove that it’s a well-organized party not a hungry crowd. During 2013 elections PTI got good response in Karachi instead of ‘THAPA MAFIA’, if they had organized their party after that and highlighted the problems of the city actively then surely they must in lead in Karachi at this time but now this time they just like all other parties in Karachi.

Elections are just weeks away and this seems that PTI has no new slogan to promise to people which could attract people to vote for IK. Last PTI has this wave of ‘Naya Pakstan’ at least in urban areas. But this time they have no wave in their favor. They have to give a new attractive slogan to people so that a wave could form in their which can consequently lead them to win elections.
One of the main points in favor of PTI are ‘not being tested’ and corruption free background of Imran Khan which gives them some steps forward. Reputation of other parties as involved in corruption and taking no action significant action against corruption, spending less on human development has leave no option for some voter other than PTI and test IK which adds to chances of PTI but only these factors are not enough, PTI has to give more reasons and factors so that people should vote for them otherwise they cannot get enough votes to from government.

Current Political Situation its reasons and solutions

When weather is becoming cold political atmosphere has become hot. Combination of poor governance and political turmoil is potent one. Current situation seems to be having both. Recent APC has clearly unnerved the government. Nawaz Sharif went further and attacked the real power holders through his speeches. Those speeches have largely been responded by government’s spokes persons as anti-state or by labelling some opponents as traitors. Power holders have also tried to discredit the opposition’s allegations by announcing their meeting with members of opposition parties. Some opponents have been called by NAB especially after the APC. The so called PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) has announced its leadership and its timetable for processions. So see that if they will be able to get sizeable crowd on streets and if they do then it will create more problems for the government politically and from governance aspect.
